A couple of months after my girlfriend and I started dating, I went to a party at her parents house.
Everyone was there and it was my first time meeting her mom and dad.
They were extremely nice and gracious and they made me feel very welcome in their home. I spent a lot of my time hanging out with my girlfriend in the kitchen. I didn’t know anyone and I felt more comfortable hanging out in the same room with my girlfriend. About a half-hour after the ladies started cooking, it started to get warm inside of the house and the kitchen atmosphere was uncomfortable. I heard the air conditioner running, but I didn’t feel any cold air coming out of the kitchen vent. I mentioned this to my girlfriend and she told me that the kitchen air vents have never worked. I thought that was really strange. I decided to borrow a screwdriver from my girlfriend’s father and I removed some of the vent covers. I work in the HVAC repair industry. I handle these kinds of repairs all the time. As soon as I removed the vent cover, I knew exactly why there was no cool air coming out of the vents. There was a piece of plastic in the ductwork that was blocking the flow of air on purpose. My girlfriend and her family never knew about the plastic. I thought it was terribly tragic that they had a recent tune-up and the HVAC technician never bothered to fix the problem with the kitchen air vents.
