My parents live in the northeastern part of the country and I am down south.
- I am adjusted to warmer temperatures basically year around.
I never experience cold, frozen grounds or really temperatures below 40 degrees. I deal with heat, humidity and sunshine. I am constantly running my air conditioner and getting a tan. My parents have lived in the cold their whole life and don’t know any better. They are seasoned to it as well. I have learned now that I can’t visit them for most of the year. The wintertime the temperatures get into -20 degrees and my parents barely run their heating system. The house is maybe 70 degrees during the severe wintertime. I think it is that their heaters are so old and can’t keep up with that level of cold. My parents just bundle up and say they are fine. I feel like I would die spending a week in sub zero temperatures. The springtime might be worse though. My parents love to tell me how warm it is at their place. It is usually around 50 degrees when they are telling me that. I made the mistake of coming home for Easter and I spent the whole trip without heating. The whole house was freezing cold. I slept in my winter coat, it was just awful. My only choice is to visit from June to August, dead summertime. The temperatures are in the upper 70s during the day and drop a bit at night. I don’t even pack my summer clothes when I visit because it is so mild.
