Sunshine feels good but I love the HVAC cooling

I moved away from the cold for a reason.

  • Sure, having a job lined up and a promotion at that sure added to my motivation.

But having been born and raised with brutal winters, I was ready for a change. And I never really got the whole winter thing anyway. Going outside wasn’t my thing and so I ended up inside the HVAC heating of the house all winter. Those winters go for minimum five very cold months. That’s a lot of time spent inside with the gas furnace cranking. So moving to the south was always on my radar. I even tried to go to college inside all that HVAC cooling down south. But dad was never going to help pay for out of state tuition. That meant a state school and all the radiant heat I could stand inside a dorm room for four years. When I was offered the promotion and the chance to work in the zone controlled HVAC of our southern office, I jumped at it. Honestly, it was the best decision of my life. I miss my home region in a variety of cultural and regional ways but I sure don’t miss that gas furnace. These days, I get both my heating and cooling from one source. The heat pump is king around this region and it’s not even close. The heat pump is so perfectly designed for this application. It moves heat energy from one place to another. So in our homes, it’s moving the heat energy out of the house so cooler air can take its place and then lower the temperature.
