I knew I was being stubborn, but I thought shivering was better than having the pain of the sunburn.
We had ridden our motorcycles to the shore, and I thought it would be cool to ride without a shirt and in my shorts. The only part of me that wasn’t burnt was where my shorts and sneakers covered the skin. When we got to the hotel, our room wasn’t ready, but we found some nice girls who let us sack out on their floor until our room was ready. With the help of aloe, some of the pain was out of the sunburn, but not all of it. The only thing that soothed the sunburn was the air conditioning. I laid on the one bed where the air vent was pointing and let it do its job. I couldn’t believe how painful a sunburn could be. The one girl wanted me to get into a cool shower, but I was afraid it would strip off my already blistering skin. As I shivered on the bed, I refused to let them turn off the air conditioning. I had a blanket covering my feet, and a small sheet over me, but I was still shivering, and refusing to move away from the direct flow of the AC. I knew I was being stubborn, but I thought shivering was better than having the pain of the sunburn. The next morning, our room was ready, but I wasn’t moving. The blistered skin on my chest was stuck to the bed, and I couldn’t move. They had to get a doctor to the room and give me something for the pain and for sun poisoning. My friends and I gave the girls our room since I was stuck to the bed.
