When the heating system in my house stopped working, I panicked. I was on the brink of the coldest weather of the year, and I didn’t have an instant source of heat. I called around to several businesses, but because it was the Holiday season nobody had time to fit me in for a house call. When the panic subsided I started to think logically, and decided to pop up to Walmart and buy a space heater. It was just a temporary solution, but it would provide the heating I needed for the next couple of weeks. Then the strangest thing happened. I liked the space heater so much I started to question if I should bother fixing the central system at all. The space heater was plenty powerful, but also far more energy efficient than the central HVAC system. It was a little inconvenient to move the space heater from room to room with me, but otherwise it was more than sufficient for my needs. By the time the local HVAC companies could fit me in for an appointment, I wasn’t sure I wanted them to come. It would cost at least a couple hundred bucks, bare minimum, to get my central heater working again. Winters here are intense, but short, so in a couple more months I would not need a heater very much at all. When I weighed my options and looked at the cost involved, I decided to keep using the space heater and not spend the extra money for central HVAC repair. I hope it works out!
