My friend the HVAC tech gave me bad advice

When you pay a business to perform a service for you, then you have a right to complain about a poor experience.

However, when you ask a favor from a friend then you have no right to complain about anything, no matter what happens.

I tried to save a little money and call in a favor from a friend, instead of using the professionals, and I learned a serious lesson! I have known Kenny for a couple of years now. We aren’t best friends but we hang out from time to time. When my air conditioner stopped working, my first thought was to reach out and ask Kenny to inspect it for me. I knew that Kenny was a certified HVAC tech, and hoped he could give me some expert advice. Kenny came over one night, and we had a few beers and a joint before he inspected my HVAC system. He replaced some fuses, and sealed a couple of hairline cracks in the air duct. Overall, he said my system was in great shape and gave my heating and cooling units a clean bill of health. Two weeks later everything stopped working. No heating, no cooling, nothing! Even the fans in the system wouldn’t work! Suddenly Kenny isn’t taking my calls, and I have no choice but to bite the bullet and call a local HVAC contractor. I obviously need a professional opinion, because Kenny doesn’t know squat about air conditioners. In the future I will not take secondhand advice about my heating and cooling system, I will call a licensed pro.
