Mom and I run a small bakery together in town.
Ever since I was a young girl, my mom has loved baking.
Kids from the neighborhood used to flock to my house just to enjoy her treats. Their parents also put in orders for all sorts of baked goods for special occasions or to add to the Sunday dinner menu. At that time, dad worked as an HVAC technician so mom didn’t have to get a job. Instead, she’d earn extra income for the household through this side hustle. Her dream had always been to open a bakery and sell her treats to many people. The dream was there and dad even began putting money aside to set it up for her. But when I was 16, he got ill and soon passed away. This meant we had to dig into the savings to keep things afloat so I could go to college. I promised mom that one day she’d have her dream of a bakery, and now, 15 years later, the place is thriving. Last summer, we were so busy that we forgot to have the AC at home serviced. One evening, mom arrived at the house only to find the AC had failed. She contacted a nearby HVAC company and they had someone come over early the next morning to do an AC inspection. The AC specialist not only found a faulty part but also mold in the AC which was quite worrying. She had to do a complete repair and cleaning to restore the AC function. Mom was happy and promised never to miss HVAC maintenance ever again.
