When we moved down here, I knew there were going to be a lot of changes.
It’s quite a different environment in almost every way from where we came from.
Both my wife and I grew up and lived in a northern city. That meant that we lived in apartment all of our lives. The Winters were dominated by the cold but we had pretty good radiant heating in our apartment. The Summer could get warm but nothing a couple of window air conditioning units couldn’t handle. This was all turned on it’s head when we moved south. First, we became homeowners for the very first time. And we have central air conditioning for the first time as well. All of our heating and cooling comes from the heat pump. We replaced all of the heating and cooling equipment when we bought this place. We’re also lucky that we both work inside offices with great commercial HVAC. That’s a must with Summer temperatures like we’re now dealing with. I can’t imagine having to wear a coat and tie to work without some pretty stellar air conditioning in the office. But I think the biggest challenge for me anyway is the humidity. I’ve never felt anything like it. Sure, the temperatures stick in the mid to upper 90’s all Summer. However, it’s that dang humidity that really knocks me out. Thankfully, the heat pump is there to help with that as well. Not only does the heat pump provide the cooling comfort that I need, it’s balancing the humidity level as well. I love walking into my home at any point to be met with crips, cooling comfort and low humidity from the central air conditioning.
