Smart thermostats make it so that you do not have to run your central heating and air conditioning system all the time like you would when you had a basic thermostat. You can turn the HVAC system off when you are not home and then turn on the heating or the air conditioning when you are on your way back to your home. It is really a great asset to having a central heating and cooling unit.
