With the rising cost of everything, I have decided to conserve energy in our new home so that I can save some money, but my idea is to use a portable gas furnace instead of using our central heating.
I must confess that I am a bit wary about using a small gas furnace, because it does have a bad reputation for causing fires in homes. Of course, a lot of times those fires are perhaps due to negligence or misuse of the gas furnace, but that doesn’t stop myself and others from being worried about using them. Modern portable furnaces should be used as a supplement to central heating and not as a main source of heat. However, many people use them as a primary way to heat their homes. I understand why because it costs a lot more money to heat our homes in the winter weeks. There are two types of section heaters: kerosene and electric heaters. Kerosene furnaces are a bit more dangerous and tend to be the cause of most of the gas furnace related fires, however if a portable gas furnace is used properly there should be little to no issues. For instance, you should never leave a small gas furnace unattended and you should always keep it in an open area away from furniture or anything hanging like curtains. Although a kerosene furnace has the capability of heating a home because it can produce up to 21,000 BTU of heat, it is not suggested to use the gas furnace as a main heating source. Personally, I will be using an electric space heater, because the thought of having a kerosene burning device in our new home does not sound like a wonderful idea to me.
