It had been a long winter, and I wanted to have my ductwork cleaned before the air conditioning unit went into use.
I had a lot of dust in the house, and I knew it was time to have the ductwork cleaned.
It had been about three years since the last cleaning and it was due. I called the HVAC company and asked them to send some ductwork cleaners to the house to clean and sanitize the ductwork. Two days later, the professional ductwork cleaners were at the house, and they were just getting into the inspection. One of the two men came upstairs and asked if I would go into the basement with him. I went downstairs, and he started pointed several sizeable holes in the ductwork. Some of them were big enough that he could put two fingers through. He asked if I had spent a lot of money on fuel that year. I had used more than usual, and it was quite expensive. He said that most of my heat was leaking out of the holes. He said that normally, they could repair the holes, but they were beyond the repair stage. The ductwork needed replaced. I told him I just wanted the ductwork cleaned, and I hadn’t even considered having it replaced. He apologized and said he had nothing to do with the rust and he would gladly repair it if he could, but…I knew what that but meant and I didn’t question him further. I asked if he could come up with a price and have an HVAC technician come to the house that evening, after my husband was home.
