Mum had been living on her own since dad died when I was about 25.
Every one of us had all left lake house & though they were now just the 2 of them, they loved their time together.
When dad passed away, she had a difficult time coming to terms with her loss & the loneliness that came after. It took some time for her to become accustomed to the loneliness. Whenever she needed help with anything in the house including the electric furnace, she would call us, well, me. I am an Heating, Ventilation & A/C tech with a successful heating dealership in town. My day is usually full of heating system service or furnace/heater installations. Mum had called me some time ago complaining that her wireless control unit was confusing her because the reading it showed did not match the indoor comfort. The heating system was also starting to underperform though the two of us had changed the furnace filter while in the last heating repair. I traveled to mum’s house to try & service the boiler. Every one of us took this time to catch up with mum. It was a sunny cold Wintertide day & the two of us had some Tim Hortons Coffee in the garden. After increasing some of the heat & A/C products that were worn out, the two of us were done with the servicing, then recently the heating industry has passed a law that requires companies to give an Heating, Ventilation & A/C service method to all customers without it. Within a few hours, I had managed to service the furnace & the two of us were seated in the bedroom sewing & having cake. In the night, I kneel on the heated floor in mum’s living room while I continued reading the book of the week.
