The first few years up here were not exactly what we would call being in our comfort zone.
Work was so demanding as there was a large learning curve to our modern positions.
We don’t believe we socialized but at holidays when friends or family would come to visit. And even then, it was right back to the zone controlled Heating, Ventilation, and A/C of the office that we were not accountable for. This was a massive step in our work. While we were convinced that we were up to it. Those first few years would test us and our resolve more than ever before. However, we would never have applied for the position if we didn’t think we could do it. The fact is, we’d been working more than 13 years for the same company and looking for this sort of change. It’s just that this instance was more than a challenge. Actually, when we got here, this regional office was a complete disaster. The previous 4 supervisors had been culled because they couldn’t turn the ship around. And when we got here, this place was hemorrhaging money and morale was in the toilet. Throw in the fact that we had never lived and worked above the Mason Dixon line and it was so tough. The small loft we purchased came with a gas furnace that we inherited. Actually, this was a fast sale because we agreed to take the place as is for the right price. That worked out for us financially and shelter wise, but it was far from comfortable just like being in the office. But last Fall, we updated all of the residential Heating, Ventilation, and A/C and now have a central cooling that comes with a modern gas furnace. This winter season was really cozy inside our home.
