My smart thermostat still works without an internet connection

I work from home, so I use my internet all the time.

Having a reliable internet provider is very important to avoid any unforeseen interruptions.

Therefore, I use the best provider on this side of town, and I have had no issues until last week. I was in the middle of a morning meeting with one of my clients, when the video calI was instantly disconnected. At first, I thought it was just a glitch, and I would reconnect, but when I tried, I got a message that I had no internet. I checked the modem, and tried to troubleshoot the issue, but to no avail. So, I contacted my provider who mentioned that there was a major outage in my neighborhood. I called my client to let him know, and we rescheduled our meeting. While sitting at my desk, it occurred to me that my smart thermostat would not be able to work properly with no internet connection, and I would have to manually adjust it until the internet was restored. Prior to purchasing the thermostat, that was my one question to the salesman – what happens if I had no internet? The salesman assured me that I could use the smart thermostat just like I would a regular thermostat, and that once the internet was restored, the settings on the thermostat would go back to normal. I didn’t think I would see the day where I would have to manually adjust my smart thermostat, but the internet was down for 6 hours that day. I am glad the manufacturer thought about this scenario when they designed these smart thermostats because internet outages don’t happen very often.
