Your HVAC Troubleshooting Guys

Isn’t it funny how much pets can be like their people? I think that is because we are drawn to animals that have a similar personality as us. This is really true when it comes to my cat. I have always been a cooling guy and I can’t begin to tell you how much I love and appreciate my cooling system! I seriously think I couldn’t live without it. Ok, I could realistically speaking, but I wouldn’t want to, that is what I mean. Anyways, because I love cooling so much I’ve always been a bit particular about what kind of temperatures I want to have set in my home. Now naturally because I prefer cooler temperatures I try to have my home set to around 70 degrees. This, in my opinion, is about the perfect temperature for me, anything higher than that is just a little too warm, anything colder than that is just a little bit too chilly in my opinion. Funny enough, my cat loves the cool temperatures as much as I do. If it starts getting hot in the house she’ll actually go and start meowing at the thermostat. She’s a smart cat because she has learned that the thermostat is what controls the temperature and so I’ll cool the house down for both of us when she meows so that we both can enjoy the cool house. She’s always really happy after I do because she’ll come and lay on my lap and just purr and then take a nap with me as we both enjoy the cool AC.

So how do you wind down and relax after a long and busy day? I work as a local heating and AC technician so it seems like I’m always running around to all kinds of different places to repair people’s heating and AC systems.

• Sometimes it’s repair work and other times it’s doing installations, it doesn’t really matter what I’m doing that day but one thing that’s always the same no matter what I’m doing is that I’m always very tired after a long day and I always look forward to just coming home to sit back and relax for a while.

My routine has been the same for quite a while now and this is exactly what I do when I come home. The first thing I do is I go and I turn on the TV. I love watching TV. I’ve always been a TV guy and I love putting on my favorite TV show. Then I open the app on my phone that controls my smart thermostat, I make sure that it’s set to the best cooling settings that I can’t afford and I crank that wonderful thermostat up. My couch is positioned directly underneath an air vent so I can feel the wonderful cool air from my AC unit come down and cool my hot and sweaty body from being outside all day. Then I relax under the wonderful cool air and watch some TV with a bag of chips in one hand and nacho cheese in the other hand. That’s the perfect life for me on the weekend. The best time is the time when everything is taken care of and you can just kick back and relax.

I’ve been noticing a strange phenomena recently that’s been going on in my house. Right now I’m living in a small place but I really want to upgrade to something bigger and so I’m putting as much money as I can into my savings so that I can hopefully one day upgrade to a much nicer house with an excellent HVAC system to go along with it. That is my goal. So what is the strange phenomena you might wonder? Well, despite me budgeting and keeping track of all my expenses very thoroughly, I’ve noticed that my heating and AC bill has been steadily rising with every month but the thing is that I’m doing everything exactly the same. I have the same HVAC unit, the same thermostat, and I’m using it exactly the same. I know I’m using it exactly the same and that I haven’t changed anything because I’m using a smart thermostat. The smart thermostat connects to an app on my phone where I can control the smart thermostat. I always keep it on the same settings and I check every day to make sure that my thermostat is exactly where it should be and it hasn’t moved at all. So what’s going on? I decided that it would be best if I contacted a heating and AC to come out and take a look because my suspicions were that maybe my thermostat wasn’t working correctly. However when the HVAC technician came out he found that actually the issue was that I had a leak in my ductwork and that was causing me to lose a large amount of air that my air conditioning system put out, meeting my HVAC system had to work harder to even cool my home. Once the ductwork was repaired the problem was taken care of and the amount went back to normal.

I really didn’t think it had anything to do with the heating and cooling company but considering how bad the smell was and how tired I was dealing with it I was going to try anything at this point.

Yesterday my husband and I made a quite disgusting discovery. The entire month we’ve been having a really bad smell that’s been permeating throughout our house. While we’ve been doing everything that we could to find the source of the smell we were not having much luck, all we knew is that the smell was getting continuously worse and that if we didn’t do something soon that we were not going to be able to live in our own house because of how bad that the smell is getting. Finally my husband came up with a fantastic idea, he suggested that why don’t we call the heating and AC business and see if they can figure out the rest of the problem. I really didn’t think it had anything to do with the heating and cooling company but considering how bad the smell was and how tired I was dealing with it I was going to try anything at this point. So we called the heating and AC business and we made an appointment with them and within the next couple of weeks we had a HVAC guy come out and take a look at our ductwork to see if that was the cause of the issue. I must say we needed to wait a couple weeks for the heating and AC guy to come out and take a look at it. Waiting was like torture, the smell is almost unbearable by the time he arrived and I think he knew it too because the moment he walked in the door it looked like he turned green in the face and could have fell over! Yes our place stunk that bad and no amount of air freshener or cleaning would fix it. It didn’t take the heating and AC guy long to look at our ductwork and come to the same conclusion that we had, we had mold in our ductwork and we needed to have it cleaned immediately.
