When I was young, like every other kid, I admired the firefighters and thought they were heroes dressed in fire gear.

My brothers and I were fascinated by these professionals, and we looked up to them.

At some point in my life, I wanted to become a firefighter. With all these crazes about firefighters, I never visited a fire station. When I grew up, I became a cooling specialist and got a job with one of the best HVAC businesses in the country. The love, admiration, and appreciation for firefighters came back last winter when I visited the fire station for the first time. We received a call from the fire captain. He requested quality AC services as the station’s electric heat pump had malfunctioned. Firefighters must work in a comfortable environment because they work long hours and do hazardous jobs. The heating and cooling system at the station was new, as the HVAC installation occurred about five years ago. The captain had done a splendid job of keeping up with the required HVAC maintenance requirement, but it had malfunctioned like any machine. When we arrived at the station, it was everything I had imagined, clean and organized, and there was a slide-down pole. To help with indoor comfort, we did the repairs that included replacing several worn-out components. We also had the local service provider deliver a programmable thermostat and filters. The climate control system was a similar HVAC brand to the one we had at the cooling corporation. We fixed the quality cooling equipment within a few hours, and when we finished, the captain was fantastic enough to take us on a station tour. I felt like a child in Disneyland for the first time. Despite a trip down my childhood fantasies, I am glad I became a cooling technician. Even though all jobs have their risks, one cannot compare the risks an HVAC contractor to the immense risks firefighters face.

I can finish my writing toil in the next half hour, which puts me right on track to being done with my workday by 3 pm like I usually do.

• I will rest for an hour after that and then head to a client’s flat on my street to option up an extra $20 for an easy 30 minute yoga session.

My bills are down to about $850 after getting paid for yoga each month, which makes it undoubtedly easy to make because I also get $350 a month from managing properties online for my sibling. My brother owns a local company way over in the Far East. He has lived there for a long time and pays me to service air conditioning systems and collect rent each month. So after making that cash each month my energy bills are down to $500 a month. I just need $500 a month from my HVAC technician job for the local corporation each month to pay for my living here on the coast of a pretty city in the Mediterranean. I know I have reached my dream now. All I have to do from here on out is just wake up each day and live it. I have a nice air conditioned and heated flat, an attractive husband and three cats, a cool passion for playing songs in a band in temperature controlled clubs and ski lodges, and another passion for playing two on two beach volleyball. I would say that is pretty cool living at 56, right?

I have exactly two more hours until I need to be down the street, doing a yoga session for a client.

He pays me well to teach him yoga three times a week. It pays for all of my food for the week, which is good because we can save more of my normal paycheck to get that buffer in the bank again that I like to have. I am cooking some beans and rice on the stove later. I am going to have a date night with my housemate later tonight. She’s a heating and cooling systems technician. My lady love and I met some years back at an HVAC company we worked for. We decided to move in together a year ago. She kind of grew on me. We began dating a few months ago and like to have date nights once a week. We eat superb food & listen to some oldies songs by candlelight with the cats. It is a good life; my home has temperature control, and I have a nice guy to share my time with. I am missing my mom a lot. I need to be here for my dreams, especially my music. If mom passes on I know that we enjoyed each other. She will still be with me in my memories and feelings, so she will never die, in my mind. I am going to fire up the fireplace soon and go get that yoga session done, so I can come back to my love, and my natural temperature control heater.

I will knock out eight or nine more stories today in a timely fashion, then it will be yoga and meditation time! I am going to start listening to my podcast soon, so I can start my Spanish lesson for the day.

• I normally listen to about two hours of Spanish instruction, so that I can be more proficient in this language in my town.

Within six or seven months, my Spanish will be at the level where I can carry on conversations with the local people, so that I don’t feel like so much of an outcast anymore. Listening to podcasts while I do my yoga, cooking and cleaning is pleasurable for me. I don’t like to listen to it while I clean home air ducts, though, because it is too distracting, and cleaning HVAC systems takes all of my focus concentration, to avoid getting hurt on the job. I have a slow workload today, and I am just going to teach a 30 minute yoga session to a friend, then go relax at the beach & watch the sunshine sink down in the sky. It should be warm, and air conditioning is needed soon for cooling down my office while I am working, but today is a bit cooler and I don’t know I will need to run the heating and cooling system. I have a few little fans that I am going to use when it gets warm. Then it will be air conditioning again.
