Your HVAC Troubleshooting Guys

One of my best friends from high school and I continued to stay friends for 10 years after school was over. Eventually she moved away from town and we only talked every couple of months. When Facebook came out, we got back in touch with each other and I found out that she had two older boys. One of the boys is still a senior in high school and the other boy is an HVAC technician. We only briefly talked about both of the boys when we were talking about our families. Then I ran into one of her boys in the strangest and oddest of circumstances. I was at work when a problem with the commercial HVAC system came up. The building manager had to contact the commercial HVAC repair center. I happened to be downstairs working on the first floor when the commercial HVAC repairman showed up to complete the diagnosis and repair. I recognize the face right away. I could tell that the kid looked exactly like my best friend. When I saw the name on his shirt, I knew that it had to be the same kid. I grabbed the guy by the arm and I asked him if his mom’s name was Jackie. He smiled and asked if I knew his mom and I told him exactly who I was. He took my phone number so he could tell his mom that he ran into me on a commercial HVAC repair job. It was very strange and odd to run into Jack like that and I know it must be a sign.

I normally charge about $450 to check on the heating and AC components

My brother-in-law called me when he wanted to buy a house. The guy wanted to know if the heating and AC components were in good shape or not. My brother-in-law called me because I work for a contracting firm that deals with HVAC systems. I mainly work with commercial heating and AC units, but I can just as easily evaluate and repair a residential system. Lately most of my work has been contracted work for a realty company. I have been performing inspections on the heating and AC units in homes that are on the market. That’s why my brother called me in the first place. He knew that I was already working on inspections and he wanted me to check out a place on the west side about 5 mi from my job. They offered to pay me $175 bucks, but I said it wasn’t necessary. After all, the guy is married to my sister. I normally charge about $450 to check on the heating and AC components. I also include all of the air vents, duct work, and any other parts of the system that might be included in the home. My brother-in-law wasn’t very happy to hear that the heating system showed major signs of wear and tear. I think he was hoping that the property would be affordable, but an upgrade to the heating system meant that the property was going to be about $6,000 more than that asking price and that made it too much money for a one-bedroom place on that side of town.

On Sunday I called the building supervisor again, because I still had a few more loads of laundry to wash and dry.

I used to have a washer and dryer in my apartment, but my roommate moved out and I could not afford to continue paying for the rental of the machines. The apartment community charges $155 every month for the washer and dryer. It’s a crazy amount of money to spend for the washer and dryer, but a lot of people prefer just to rent the machines instead of buying their own. There is also a laundry room on the first floor of the apartment building. Last Saturday the laundry room heater wasn’t working and it was single digit temperatures outside. I was trying to wash my clothes and it felt like I was standing outside in the cold. I called the building supervisor to complain about the temperatures in the laundry room. I left a message at 10:00 in the morning letting the supervisor know that the heater was not working. I did one load of laundry and called the building supervisor again. The laundry room heater did not work at all on saturday. On Sunday I called the building supervisor again, because I still had a few more loads of laundry to wash and dry. I left another message and it wasn’t very nice. The building supervisor finally came to fix the problem with the heater, around 3:00 on sunday. By that time of the day, I was already done with my laundry. I was glad the laundry room heater was getting fixed, but it would have been nice if the building supervisor would have completed the task a little bit earlier.

Last Friday night, the church took all of the kids caroling.

They started at 5:00 after the sun went down and they spent the evening singing Christmas songs until it was about 8:30.

The kids were cold after only 2 hours of singing Christmas songs. My daughter is 12 and she has her own phone. She texted me and said that she was ready to leave. Her brother was in a different group, because he is only 10. I put on my shoes and I headed out to find the kids. My daughter said they had passed the grocery store a couple of minutes ago and I didn’t have any trouble finding her group. I did have trouble finding my son. That group of kids was over by the nursing home. Both of my kids were practically frozen solid. It was 36 degrees outside and their hands and face were red and cold. I took them back to the house and each one of the kids took a warm shower. After that I made them some hot chocolate and we stopped by the fireplace. I love having a fireplace in the house. It reminds me of when I was a kid. The fireplace is very nostalgic and it is also versatile. Having the fireplace means we can save money on our monthly heating bills. Running the fireplace is absolutely free, other than the amount of time and energy it takes to drop and gather firewood. Running the furnace takes electricity and fuel and that can cost a ton in the winter months.
