As I drove past the air conditioning company on my way from my second-day job, my car broke down thrice that week.

I was still holding on to it because it was not a classic old model but simply because I couldn’t afford another car. I had the option of selling it but could not bring myself to sell it. An indoor comfort business van stopped next to me, and the a/c serviceman asked if I needed any help. I told him my car had broken down, and he offered me a ride since we were heading in the same direction. On the way, he mentioned the address where he was going to conduct air conditioning repair. I realized that he was born in my home. I told him about all my problems with the HVAC unit. He asked me how often I have an air conditioning technician conduct a/c service. When I told him I rarely called for HVAC maintenance, he told me that could be why the quality air conditioner kept breaking down. I hesitated to lead him to the HVAC installation because my house was messy. He did not seem to notice or ignored it and went ahead to fix the multi-split air conditioning system. After he finished, he reset the thermostat. He told me everything else about the a/c setup was okay, but I would have to call the air conditioning provider to order a new filter in less than a month. On the way out, he told me that the work I was doing in the kitchen was impressive, and I smiled for the first time that day. Every day, I learned more about air conditioning and the cooling industry. The air quality greatly improved.

My dad was a miser & during the winter, he only kept enough heat in the apartment to keep the pipes from freezing.

He would tell us to get up & move, & all of us would be warmer.

The people I was with and I all walked around in sweaters or sweaters, & it was normal for us. I remember waking up some afternoons & it would be so cold, our feet ached from stepping on the floors. The people I was with and I had to rush to get dressed & have shoes & socks on before all of us stepped out of bed. When all of us took our showers, there was 1 small space gas furnace to moderate the bathroom up, but you only had five minutes per person to shower. I remember thinking I would never miser the heat to save a couple of bucks. I wanted my family to constantly be comfortable, but at the price of heating today, I had to limit it. I told the kids the temperature control would remain at sixty-eight. They had plenty of sweaters to keep them warm. If I saw anyone decreasing the temperature control any higher than sixty-eight, I would unfasten the temperature control in their home office. They thought I was kidding & my oldest kid thought he would test me. He set his temperature control to seventy-two, & I gave him a warning. He told myself and others he didn’t know I would take away his only source of heat, & I told him to try me. The next night, he once again raised the temperature control to seventy-two. When he got apartment from school, the temperature control was gone. He needs to leave his home office door open, or he has no heat in his room.

My kids are constantly telling myself and others I should get outside & walk more.

I have systemic arthritis & periodically every bone & joint in my body feels appreciate someone is hitting myself and others with a hammer.

It is so painful that the only thing making myself and others know better is a warm shower & snuggling under an electric blanket. When my furnace died, my child wanted myself and others to stay with her for a while. It was so frosty in her apartment that I could barely walk. She tried to tell myself and others I would never get moderate if I didn’t get up & get my blood circulating. She didn’t have a clue what I was going through. I took her with myself and others the next time I went to the rheumatologist. I mentioned to him how much it hurt to walk, & how the frosty makes it that much more difficult. My child made mention that she suggested i walk more & get my blood circulating & the medical professional gave her an weird look. He said he hoped she never got arthritis appreciate I had. He showed her my feet & said that was what made walking difficult. The type of arthritis I had caused the muscles to seize when I got cold. It was already strenuous to walk, but nearly impossible when it was too frosty in the house. All the walking in the world wouldn’t get myself and others warm, but only cause more pain. My child never said another disparaging word about myself and others being under a blanket all day. I remembered being her age & not having arthritis, & I prayed every night that she would never get arthritis.

My mom woke myself and others out of a sound sleep last week.

She told myself and others it was frosty in the house, & she needed to have her furnace repaired.

I never turned my mom down when she had an emergency, & going without heat is an emergency. Dad had a lot of health concerns, & I distraught about letting them go without Heating & A/C for very long. I got my wife up, & told her I was going to my parent’s apartment to repair their furnace. She was up & dressed before I was. She wanted to make sure they were okay, & she was going with me. When all of us got to the house, every light was on, & mom was standing at the door waiting for me. When I got inside, it was freezing. She had her coat on over her robe & dad was sleeping on the sofa with a space gas furnace near him. After fifteen minutes, I knew the furnace could not be repaired. The people I was with and I needed a new furnace for the house. My wife was already packing their clothing to take with us & they would stay in the spare room until I could update their furnace. The people I was with and I knew this could lead to frozen pipes, so I wrapped the pipes with heat tape & all of us headed out. It took nearly 2 weeks to get a furnace & have it installed. I would stop every evening after toil to make sure everything was okay & make sure the pipes were okay, but by the time mom & dad went home, the furnace was installed, & the apartment was more comfortable than it had been in a couple of years.
