My kids are constantly telling me I should get outside and walk more.

I have systemic arthritis and occasionally every bone and joint in my body feels care about someone is hitting me with a hammer.

It is so painful that the only thing making me guess better is a warm shower and snuggling under an electric blanket. When my furnace died, my kid wanted me to stay with her for a while. It was so cold in her beach house that I could barely walk. She tried to tell me I would never get hot if I didn’t get up and get my blood circulating. She didn’t have a clue what I was going through. I took her with me the next time I went to the rheumatologist. I mentioned to him how much it hurt to walk, and how the cold makes it that much more difficult. My kid made mention that she suggested i walk more and get my blood circulating and the doctor gave her an different look. She said she hoped she never got arthritis care about I had. She showed her my feet and said that was what made walking difficult. The type of arthritis I had caused the muscles to seize when I got cold. It was already difficult to walk, but nearly impossible when it was too cold in the house. All the walking in the world would not get me warm, but only cause more pain. My kid never said another disparaging word about me being under a blanket all afternoon. I remembered being her age and not having arthritis, and I prayed every night that she would never get arthritis.

My Dad woke me out of a sound sleep last week.

She told me it was cold in the house, and she needed to have her furnace repaired. I never turned my Dad down when she had an emergency, and going without heat is an emergency. Dad had a lot of health complications, and I worried about letting them go without Heating and Air Conditioning for unquestionably long. I got my wifey up, and told her I was going to my parent’s beach house to repair their furnace. She was up and dressed before I was. She wanted to make sure they were okay, and she was going with me. When the people I was with and I got to the house, every light was on, and Dad was resting at the door waiting for me. When I got inside, it was frigid. She had her coat on over her robe and dad was sleeping on the sofa with a space oil furnace near him. After fifteen minutes, I knew the furnace could not be repaired. The two of us needed a current furnace for the house. My wifey was already packing their clothing to take with us and they would stay in the spare room until I could update their furnace. The two of us knew this could lead to frozen pipes, so I wrapped the pipes with heat tape and the people I was with and I headed out. It took nearly more than one weeks to get a furnace and have it installed. I would stop every evening after work to make sure everything was okay and make sure the pipes were okay, but by the time Dad and dad went home, the furnace was installed, and the beach house was more comfortable than it had been in a couple of years.

I remembered my dad buying hand warmers for her gloves when she was working outside while in the winter.

Dad was an Heating and Air Conditioning dealer, and she often helped install current Heating and Air Conditioning system while in early Spring when it was still cold, or late fall when it was getting cold! She called the hand warmers her portable heaters.

Dad liked that little portable heaters, and she started putting them inside my gloves when I was outside playing. I hated wearing those gloves, and I would take the hand warmers out and give them to someone else to use. The portable furnaces would hot my hands and gloves so well that I could not make a snowball. I was the only 1 who was getting bombarded with snowballs because mine melted before I could throw them. My friend Bobby liked the portable furnaces and she would stay hidden behind our barricade and let me throw all the snowballs. She was glad to have hot hands and stay safe. The only reason she came outside to play was because her Dad and dad made him. She would rather stay in her room and learn a book or play video games. I care about that too,, but I also enjoyed playing outside, but I didn’t want to make snowballs when those portable furnaces caused them to melt, until I realized the snow was turning to ice before they totally melted. I begged Dad for a minute pair of hand warmers. I gave 1 to Bobby and kept the other set so I could get the snow to pack more swiftly and get a tighter snowball.

I was doing the Halloween path with my kids last year, when a young girl came to 1 door. She told me she would give me a treat for a trick. I thought she was joking until she asked if I was the Heating and Air Conditioning company who lived down the street? I told her I was, and she said her furnace quit working. She would not just pay me but give me a special treat if I gave her a trick and got her furnace running. I was laughing at the way she said it, but I knew she was serious. She said her kids would be beach house from trick or treating soon, and she didn’t want them coming into a cold house. My wifey said she would take the Halloween path without me and herded the kids out the door with their treats so I could repair the furnace. There wasn’t much wrong with the furnace, so it took less than an minute to get it running again. Without fifteen minutes of repairing the furnace, her beach house was hot again. I was glad I could repair her furnace so swiftly, even though she still insisted she had to give me a treat. Along with giving me currency, she handed me an entire bucket of candy she had left over from the trick or treating, and told me to share it with my kids. I thought i was going to be trick or treating with my kids, but I ended up working instead. I was glad that I could help someone in need when it was needed.
