A lot of HVAC techs are retiring

Last year while I was working at the office the A/C randomly malfunctioned. Thankfully, the temperature outside wasn’t too hot, the temperature was in the mid-72s, so it was quite pleasant, which means that when the A/C broke, the building didn’t become too uncomfortable. We called the maintenance manager so that he could schedule an appointment with our A/C provider. Unfortunately, our A/C provider had a backlog of repair calls and did not have any heating professionals available for that day. I had read somewhere that there is a shortage of A/C professionals, and the industry is consistently growing but they can’t find enough talent to fill the modern positions. There are a lot of older A/C professionals who are retiring, and that wave has caused the shortage in the industry. Unfortunately, the younger generation are becoming less and less interested in taking on skilled blue-collared jobs. They are more interested in the modern tech jobs that are currently on the rise, as a result, the HVAC industry is seeing the impact of that. The great news is, in the same article, I learned that more ladies are becoming A/C professionals. In fact, the industry has placed incentive programs in place, like scholarships that would appeal to young ladies interested in becoming professionals. I believe having representation is great, and if the industry is having a hard time finding talent, it is a smart move to broaden the pool. Perhaps one day soon, the A/C provider for our supplier would have some ladies professionals as part of their team.

The heating and cooling industry is growing

Last week while I was working at the office the a/c randomly malfunctioned, thankfully, the temperature outside wasn’t too hot, then in fact, the temperature was in the mid-70s, so it was quite pleasant, which means that when the a/c broke, the building didn’t become too uncomfortable.

Well, I called the service manager so that she could schedule an appointment with our HVAC provider, and unluckily, our HVAC provider had a backlog of repair calls and did not have any cooling specialists available for that day.

I have read that there is a shortage of air conditioning specialists, and the industry is constantly growing but they can’t find enough talent to fill the new positions. There are a lot of older A/C specialists who are retiring, and that wave has caused the shortage in the industry. Unluckily, the younger generation are becoming less and less interested in taking on skilled blue-collared jobs. They are more interested in the modern tech jobs that are currently on the rise. As a result, the HVAC industry is seeing the impact of that. The fantastic news is, in the same article, I learned that more ladies are becoming heating specialists. In fact, the industry has placed incentive programs in location, like scholarships that would appeal to young ladies interested in becoming specialists. I know having representation is great, and if the industry is having a strenuous time finding talent, it is a smart move to broaden the pool. Perhaps one day soon, the HVAC provider for our contractor would have some ladies specialists as part of their team.

There is a shortage of HVAC technicians and the industry keeps growing

Last week while I was working at the office the air conditioner randomly malfunctioned. Thankfully, the temperature outside wasn’t too hot. In fact, the temperature was in the mid-80s, so it was quite pleasant, which means that when the A/C broke, the building didn’t become too uncomfortable. Well, we called the maintenance manager so that he could schedule an appointment with our HVAC provider. Unfortunately, our HVAC provider had a backlog of service calls and did not have any HVAC technicians available for that day. I had read somewhere that there is a shortage of HVAC technicians, and the industry is consistently growing but they can’t find enough talent to fill the new positions. There are a lot of older HVAC technicians who are retiring, and that wave has caused the shortage in the industry. Unfortunately, the younger generation are becoming less and less interested in taking on skilled blue-collared jobs. They are more interested in the new tech jobs that are currently on the rise. As a result, the HVAC industry is seeing the impact of that. The good news is, in the same article, I read that more women are becoming HVAC technicians. In fact, the industry has placed incentive programs in place, like scholarships that would appeal to young women interested in becoming technicians. I believe having representation is great, and if the industry is having a hard time finding talent, it is a smart move to broaden the pool. Perhaps one day soon, the HVAC provider for my company would have some women technicians as part of their team.

I increased the temperature on my thermostat

For the most part, I am certainly careful when it comes to using excess energy in my home, and I am trying my best to reduce my carbon footprint wherever I can.

I drive less than I did before, I recycle as well as have taken measures to reduce the waste that I create in my home.

In addition, I have also cut back on using my a/c. We need to use the air conditioning for comfort especially while I was in the warm season, but the a/c contributes a lot to global warming, due to the large amounts of electricity it takes to power the units, and some of the coolants used emit toxic gasses into the ozone, as you certainly already know, temperature change is becoming a major issue, and it will take all of us to play our parts in tackling this problem. We can’t repair everything, but we can make small changes in our lives to conserve energy. If you pay attention to your power bill, there are consistently tips on how to conserve more energy, and so even the power companies are well aware of the issue. In fact, my utility contractor constantly sends me emails on energy usage, and how to conserve as well as save money on my utility bill. I am already practicing most of the tips that they have advised; For instance, I have increased the temperature on my thermostat from 72 degrees to 78 degrees while I was in the afternoon. The Department of Energy recommends setting our thermostats to 77 degrees in the warm season. So, I am doing more than what is recommended. And to my surprise, setting my thermostat to 78 degrees is more comfortable than I thought it would be.
