Mom was expecting her sister to arrive any time and was stressing out.

During the day, the AC system stopped working.

It started blowing less cool air into the house. By noon, the cooling unit went silent and mom began to panic. She wanted everything to be perfect for her sister, her partner and their kids. But, the day wasn’t off to a great start. Mom’s sister phoned to say they were about 2 hours away. Instead of flying, they’d opted to turn the trip into an adventure. The kids had some attractions they wanted to see along the way. So, my aunt and uncle rented out a mobile home for the summer. They’d drive to our home and see as many wonderful attractions as possible. Since modern mobile homes are quite classy and have amazing cooling systems, they knew the trip would be fun. Anyway, my mom wasn’t pleased with the faulty AC and phoned the AC repair company for help. Luckily, an AC repair person was available to fix the issue. I told mom she was lucky since most AC companies can’t send out an expert immediately. One has to wait several hours or the next day for an AC repair person to come by. About 30 minutes after hanging up the phone, mom was at the door welcoming the AC repair person to take a look at the AC unit. He did a splendid job of noting the issue and fixing it in record time. It seemed what started as a disastrous day was ending on such a positive note, and mom was thrilled.

But, Jackson’s mom always said it was her dad, Jackson’s grandpa, who insisted she trains as an HVAC expert. Though times were different back then, he always had an eye for the future. He said a time would come when women could do anything. And he was right. Despite having challenges working in a male-dominated field, Jackson’s mom excelled. She never let anyone walk all over her and knew how to handle her clients. She passed on her excellent work ethic to Jackson when he said he also wanted to become an HVAC expert. This was a better option since he wasn’t interested in college. Instead, Jackson went to HVAC school and was his mom’s apprentice for 2 years. He got a job as soon as he got his HVAC certification and has been working as an HVAC professional for 2 decades. Jackson loves sharing his inspirational story with kids at the local high school where he went for 4 years a long time ago. He’s a big believer in embracing changing times and always encourages the students to think outside the box. Jackson’s mom had set up a company he’s currently running and offers paid internships to any willing students. They can come in and learn all about the HVAC industry before graduating from high school. Some go to HVAC school and get jobs in the vast industry.

I’ve only been living in my current beach house for 2 years.

Before that, I was renting an apartment in the city.

After college, I moved into this small apartment that I was sharing with 4 roommates. Later, I managed to move to a better place where I only had one roommate. We got along fine, and I managed to save up the amount I wanted to put as a down payment for a house. My roommate also had similar plans, so we always challenged each other to be frugal and stay the course. Eventually, I found a lovely beach house for sale and bought it. About a year later, I had my first encounter with AC problems. It was summer, and I hadn’t done any AC maintenance work. Since the new AC unit, I thought it was good to go until next summer. But, one morning, I felt the house was warmer since the unit wasn’t blowing ample cool air into the beach house. I had to go online and search for an AC repair company in the area to assist me with this issue. I got 3 choices and opted for the one that confirmed an AC technician would come by my house in half an hour. The rest were saying someone would come by between 4 and 6 hours. The AC technician was punctual and began doing a thorough inspection of the unit. She discovered my air filter was filthy and needed a replacement. The AC technician also had to clean the evaporator coils, and other parts of the AC were covered in dirt. She left after she was done and handed me a bill which was surprisingly lower than I had expected.

Milly prides herself on being a very handy person.

Ever since she was a kid, she visited her grandparents during the summer. Her grandfather was an exceptional farmer who also did many of the repairs on their farm. He hardly ever called a mechanic over to repair any of the many machines on the farm. Since Milly was always by his side, he started teaching her to fix things when she was 4. By the time Milly bought her first house, she had managed to do many of the upgrades herself. She considered hiring an expert when it came to the HVAC system. Milly was having issues with a leak in the AC, causing it to blow out less cool air into her home. She knew the basics of HVAC repairs and maintenance but wasn’t sure about handling refrigerant leaks. Milly mulled over buying the refrigerant and taking care of the issue herself. But, even her grandfather never tried mending their home’s heating or cooling systems. Her grandma had stated that as a house rule because this was a delicate unit. Eventually, Milly saw it was better to pay the fee to an HVAC company and have the matter resolved. That way, she wouldn’t risk handling refrigerant incorrectly and causing harm since it’s a highly toxic substance. Milly phoned the HVAC company in her area, and an AC expert took care of the repair. Her AC unit had a crack on the refrigerant lines causing the leak. The AC expert had to fix the crack and then recharge the AC with refrigerant before switching it back on.
