It is weird how my body has changed temperatures. When I first moved into my house I was on birth control. Did you know the pill can actually lower your body temperature? I just knew I was cold all the time. My husband and I were constantly fighting about the thermostat. I was wearing long pants and a jacket in the house constantly. My husband would be in his undies and sweating to death. Neither one of us was happy. When we decided to try for a baby and I went off the pill, I actually was warmer. I wasn’t as harsh about the thermostat settings. I never liked the AC coming on, but it wasn’t as big of a deal before. I no longer needed a jacket, just a blanket over my legs at night. Now I am pregnant and that raises your body temperature quite a bit. I am way hotter now. My husband is in his glory. He is so excited that I love his AC settings now. I am constantly walking into the house and asking my husband if it feels hot to him. I wear shorts and a tank just like him with the AC blowing on me. We are both much happier with my temperature changes. I wish there was a way to keep this higher temperature rate. It makes HVAC, thermostat and dealing with my husband much easier when we both agree on things. Do other couples just argue all the time about HVAC and deal with it? I wonder if more people have zone control than I think.

My cooling system lately has been giving me some trouble. I consider myself to be quite a handy person. The first thing I did was change the air filter. Then I shoved my vacuum hose in the inside of it to get rid of the rest of the dust. When that didn’t work I started taking the air conditioning system apart even further. I scrubbed the fan blades, mucked out the condensate drain and removed the mold from the cooling coil. Still it felt like my air conditioner was blowing tepid air rather than cold. I did some research and found that I just needed to add more refrigerant to the system. I started hunting around for refrigerants. It didn’t look that tough to add more to my system. Once I found refrigerant I ran into the snag while buying. Apparently you need to be licensed in order to purchase and put refrigerant in a system. I didn’t have the qualifications. To be qualified was quite difficult too. So I ended up having to call my local HVAC dealership to put some liquid in my system. It took the guy maybe ten minutes and ended up costing me like 50 bucks. I wasn’t too pleased with the cost but the guy did spend time in the car coming to my house. It is tempting to get certified so I can handle refrigerants. I bet I would never need to call for AC service again. I can do most of the things the AC professional does to my equipment.

As soon as it gets mildly hot, the air conditioner comes on. I will admit, I hate the AC. I don’t like how it feels to have cold air washing over me. I would much rather open the windows and have a natural breeze in the house. For me, being too hot over being too cold is preferable. My husband strongly disagrees. We have AC in the house, on vacation, in the car and anywhere we go. I look forward to when he leaves on business trips. The first thing I do is give our air conditioner a break. I call the local HVAC dealer and have him clean the system top to bottom. He washes the fan blades, adds lubricate to the motor belt and puts in coolant. He then gets the air conditioning system working in tip top shape. I don’t even run it while my husband is gone. I open windows and just leave them for the weekend that he is gone. I need to prepare though. The moment my husband is coming back to the house I close everything up and turn the AC back on. He would freak out if he knew our house got to around 78 degrees while he was gone. I think keeping the house sealed up so tight can’t be good for our indoor air quality. We are cycling the same, stale dirty air over and over again. I feel like that is the reason why I sneeze so much in the morning.
Whole house is getting heated flooring
I live in the north, owning an AC is like owning a pony. It is cool to have and a good conversation starter but totally unnecessary. I don’t bother with cooling since the summer season is short and the nights are always cold. I can get by with some box fans. What I really focus on is heating equipment. I need a good heater for the long, brutal winter season. For years I have depended on multiple heaters in my home. The kitchen has a ventless heater, the living room uses a fireplace and there is an old Moore heater upstairs. What I am going to do is get down to one system. I have been remodeling room by room. I change the paint color, lights, switch plates, window and lastly the floor. I am not doing carpet anymore but hardwood floors. Before I put that down, I am putting electric heated flooring in place. I then have heated flooring in the finished room. All the bedrooms have heated flooring and I just need to do the bathroom. Once that gets heated flooring, my Moore heater will go. Then downstairs I need to do the living room and the gas fireplace gets the boot. Finally I will update my kitchen and remove the ventless heater. My goal is to have the whole house completed with heated flooring in under five years. That way the floor isn’t going all at different times. I also will enjoy having no extra heating equipment laying around for a long time.
