I have to be persistent when it comes to getting things done with my husband.

He’s the one who is always careful about spending money.

I’m his opposite as I always wonder what’s the use of having cash if you don’t use it. So the fact that it took close to a decade to get a smart thermostat is a great example of how resistant he can be. When the smart control device came out, it was intriguing. I like the idea of Heating & Air Conditioning technology that I don’t have to worry about. The smart control device was Heating & Air Conditioning technology that allowed us to sort of walk away from managing the heating and cooling output. And that’s for sure something we both have done since we became homeowners. We both agree on cash decisions when it comes to saving on stuff that we don’t need to overspend money for. Heating and cooling costs may not fall into that category. So we figured a program that would work. These are digital control devices which help with the management of the Heating & Air Conditioning. But with the smart control unit, all we had to do was let it learn our patterns, adjust and get to save us even more cash. But as usual, my partner found every reason to resist. Thanks to my insistence, we finally have the smart control device installed. The old digital control device was replaced after a decade of trying. Regardless, once the digital control device is installed, my hubby all of a sudden cannot stand anymore yet he kept resisting the new Heating & Air Conditioning technology before.

It’s not all that easy being a parent.

Just ask my spouse.

When we started our family, we thought all we wanted was a huge family with like 8 kids. Thankfully, we stopped at 3. And still, with the kids now teens, there isn’t enough time to just soak up the a/c in silence. It doesn’t work even though we are both quite individuals which explains the compatibility and how we met. We met in the college library where we would both enjoy reading close to the a/c. My partner was like me, hence the quick connection. So having a house full of girls of all things, is a major twist to our lives. When the pandemic started, we all did pretty well when it came to working with each other. We had to share the heating and cooling unit for close to a year. My wife and I were working from home as the kids studied online. Even so, we still found that we certainly needed a place to just take a breath and be alone. So I had the Heating & Air Conditioning company install a ductless heat pump inside the attic. It was the perfect spot where anyone could just slip away for some time, enjoy the high quality Heating & Air Conditioning cooling and some quiet and have time to think. The attic and the ductless Heating & Air Conditioning are part of the house and my happy place that we often go to on those days we want to get away. And man, I am forever grateful for that.

Once I turned 50, everything just changed.

• Now that I look back, I can see that there were some huge red flags I might have ignored.

I didn’t see what was coming at all. I assumed that once the kids were out, the quality of heating and cooling could be worked on since the kids will be in college. For some reason I appeared to have suffered from depression. That depression increased when my wife decided that she didn’t want the marriage any more. Fortunately, an old friend of mine helped me with the Heating & Air Conditioning equipment installation before I finally sold the house as this was part of our amicable divorce. And like every time that I’m faced with difficult emotional times, I engross myself in my work. It wasn’t that I was a workaholic but suddenly theI HVAC job was the only thing left so I gave it my best. I needed a new thing to focus on and this would have to work. Throughout my adult life, I had learnt to toss all my worries in my work. It was just one huge way to cope and function really. Unfortunately, this time, it just didn’t work. One morning as I headed to the commercial Heating & Air Conditioning office things got out of hand and I was admitted to a hospital. I had a breakdown that almost cost my life. However, this being my lowest point in life, it also became my turning point. These days I work just enough to get by and never do more than 74 hours of work weeks. Actually, I am starting over from scratch in the tiny cottage out in the woods. I’m doing some consulting to pass time but money isn’t a problem. Some small tins make me happy including the ductless heat pump/ a/c in this cottage.

I have to say that this summer time was the most comfortable since we chose off grid living.

Living off the grid has been something of a lifeline pursuit that we both made happen.

It has taken a mixture of luck and persistence for any of this to happen. Even with all the organization, understanding and planning, it still comes down to money. Before moving, I worked for a commercial Heating & Air Conditioning company. While I was thrilled to have honed my skills there, that’s as far as it went. As you might imagine, I’m not exactly a corporate sort of woman. But I had to have the currency. Then, just as I was thinking I’d never get there, a close relation passed on, leaving me sufficient cash as inheritance. This would be enough to get me through the final stages of living off the grid. This plan has been a long time coming and finally we were able to start working on the plan. All we needed was to install satellite WIFI. This would help with the network signal that would ensure I can still work. The other thing was putting in a ductless heat pump this Springtime. An old pal of mine works as a Heating & Cooling professional so she would be instrumental in helping me install it. Of course, I currently use a wood stove for heating and it has been doing well. But having that ductless heat pump for winters and a good a/c for summer time would work more conveniently. I am glad to start this journey finally.
