I quit the HVAC service plan

I have lived in the same area for about 11 years now.

  • When I first moved here all of the years ago, I immediately had issues with my air conditioner and heater unit.

That was partially my fault, because I knew the home I was moving into was old and had some issues, apparently the HVAC was one of them. Thankfully my air conditioning problems didn’t last long, because I was able to find a fantastic cooling and furnace place that took care of all of my HVAC problems. Because of my great experiences I had with them on more than one occasion, I decided that they would become my main place to go to. And for years, this plan has worked well. However, the old owner of the air conditioning business retired and a new owner took over. One of the things I always had was their HVAC service plan. Their A/C service plan was affordable and had many benefits. However, as soon as the new owner took over, he greatly increased the price, as well as reduced some of the benefits! One of the main reasons I decided to get the HVAC service plan was because the emergency HVAC repair was 24/7. The new owner only made it available for a few hours per day. What was even the point of having it in case of emergency. Unless your emergency falls between those hours, there is no point. I decided to quit the service plan, which greatly disappoints me, because of how great the cooling company used to be.

I was shocked at the cost of HVAC repair

All we needed was simple HVAC repair, and yet it costs us several hundreds of dollars just for that

My husband called me while I was just finishing up work, we briefly talked about dinner for that night, and then he gave me the bad news. Apparently while I was away at work, the HVAC machine had shut down, and he had booked an appointment with a local A/C company. I was disappointed to hear this, and dreaded going a few days without any form of heating or air conditioning but I knew I would have to suffer through. My husband worked from home, so he was there when the central A/C shut down and that was when he called me. Since my husband had already called the HVAC business, I figured everything was taken care of. Unfortunately, I was wrong. My husband chose a random air conditioning corporation and didn’t take time to look at reviews. I wish he did, because if he did, he would have seen he chose the expensive business in our area. The thing is, it’s not like their service is fantastic either, so they really have no reason to be as expensive as they really are. All we needed was simple HVAC repair, and yet it costs us several hundreds of dollars just for that. It was crazy! After we paid and the HVAC technician left, I told my husband that next time we are calling around and checking prices before choosing what A/C corporation we are going with, and my husband agreed with me. Even though that information doesn’t help us now, at least we will know for future reference.

Make sure the A/C business is certified

I know for some important businesses you have to make sure they are certified, but when it comes to heating and A/C, I never thought that I would have to make sure that they are certified too. I mean, all the people do is work on air conditioners and heaters, why would they need to be certified for that? Well, I learned the hard way. All I wanted was for my heating and cooling equipment to have a tune up, I didn’t need anything complicated like a HVAC installation or HVAC repair. I saw there was a business I had heard of before, and since I like to try new places, and the A/C corporation was cheap, I decided to go with them. I didn’t even pay attention to whether they were certified or not. Well when the day of the appointment came, everything went as planned as far as the guy came over and I thought he was maintaining my A/C and furnace. However, when the guy left, it wasn’t until later that I noticed I was vastly overcharged. I had to call my bank and get my money back, and I found out that the company was a scam. I reported them, and I made sure to only go with certified companies from that point on. If you need anything done involving HVAC, make sure the business you go with is certified too. You wouldn’t want to go through what I had to go through, especially since I could have lost my money.

Always go with a trusted company

The best lessons are learned through mistakes, and unfortunately, those mistakes are often painful.

It is especially painful if it involves your wallet, as I had to learn the hard way.

I will admit, when it comes to getting things fixed, I will always look for shortcuts or cheaper ways to get what I needed done. I know it probably wasn’t the ethical choice, but if I have the opportunity to save money, you better bet that I will. This was the case with my A/C device. When it was completely broken, I decided to find the cheapest form of HVAC repair possible. I found a place that fixed air conditioners and heating units for less than 50 dollars, and I thought I struck gold. Their website looked pretty bad, but I was trying not to judge by appearances. I was going out when the HVAC tech was repairing my A/C machine, so I didn’t see what he was doing, or not doing. When I came back, even though I was told it was fixed, it still didn’t work. Then I noticed I was vastly overcharged. I called to complain, but suddenly their number was no longer in service. I was angry beyond belief, and even though I was scammed, I was unable to get my money back. If there is one thing I’ve learned is always go with a good trusted certified company. If I had just gone with a trusted company, I wouldn’t be out of so much money, and would have had my A/C device fixed.
