Finding my passion

I was resting in a cold water dip this morning thinking about what would make me happy and content now that I have money to pay all our bills for many years.

I assume having a passion and someone to love, a life partner if you will, and a healthy body and spirit.

Those are the things that should keep us satisfied. I was doing stand up comedy until about 2 or 3 years ago when I stopped basically, however now I feel like I am missing out so I am starting a weekly show this Tuesday. Find your passion. Perhaps you like doing drain line repairs and cleaning septic tanks, if that is what you appreciate then go for it. I assume having a challenge is fantastic for the mind and soul and adds a sense of purpose to our step. I’m sure some people like having a plumbing repair and a steady income and if that gives you a feeling of joy then you have found your path. I guess that when I was painting houses it was cool up to a point and then the people I was with and I began to recognize unhappiness and felt I needed to do something different, so I did. I got our plumbing license and did leak repairs for a few years until I felt like I needed another change, and that’s when I got into stand up comedy. I was 36 years old and felt like I was starting too late however as the years went by I realized that it doesn’t matter when you start, just that you start.

Taxes and plumbing repairs

Yeah so, I did my taxes for the past 3 years and hopefully calculated it right.

Sent it overnight to the IRS so I hope they forgive all the years I missed before due to no employment.

I barely scraped by from 2010 to now and now I got some relief from our dad’s will. He worked his whole life in the real estate market and accrued over 5 million dollars in real estate and a few million in the bank. I’m fortunate I had a rich and generous dad because the past 12 years chasing comedy have sunk me financially. I can now afford a plumber or carpenter if I need 1 instead of doing it myself although I would still rather provide it a shot first and recognize fantastic about being able to do it. I’ve had lots of experience fixing things and a degree in mechanical engineering so I like a challenge. I did our own tankless water heating device replacement last year and it wasn’t even that bad actually. I did a lot of painting as I owned our own painting business for a few years and the people I was with and I ran into a lot of plumbing leaks that ruined the walls so I learned how to fix them instead of the owner having to call a plumber along with myself the painter. It made them happy having me fix it because they knew me somewhat and trusted I would provide them a tolerable deal. Not to say that plumbers don’t provide tolerable deals too but it’s just easier when I am already there and guess how to fix it.

Poor hydration habits area problem

I have trouble drinking sufficient water to stay hydrated.

I was raised with well-water that was terribly contaminated by iron, calcium & an abundance of minerals.

The water was orange & had an odor of rotten eggs. It discolored our sinks, tubs & even stained my hair & clothing. At that time, bottled water wasn’t readily available. I never developed the habit of drinking lots of water. While I try to remember to carry a water bottle with me, I seldom drink from it. I would prefer to choose something other than water. I have made an effort to drink water during my morning workout. I exercise for about 60 minutes nearly every day. I switch up the exercises at the end of songs. Every time a song concludes, I chance from something like jumping rope to doing lunges. I complete a variety of stretches, weight training exercises and strenuous cardio. Whenever I change the type of exercise, I make a point to take a sip of water. By the end of the training session, I’ve drained the whole water bottle. Even if I fail to take another sip of water for the rest of the day, I’ve gotten a decent start. I normally take a break from my workouts onSundays. I don’t set an alarm, sleep in and rest my joints & muscles. Because of this, I neglect proper hydration. On Sunday afternoons, I frequently come down with really bad migraines. I dehydrated myself to where the headache leads to nausea & chills. I’ve thrown up several times, passed out & regularly needed to go back to bed because I’m in agony.

Weather forces indoor workouts

I live in the northeastern area of the country.

The weather keeps me indoors for the majority of months.

I exercise every day. Because of my location, it was necessary to invest in gear for a home gym. I’m situated too far away from an organized fitness center to make a membership possible. I love to go for runs or bike rides. However, the chances are slim. By the end of October, the conditions are already rather nasty. I always check the weather forecast, hoping for a dry & warm day so that I can head outdoors for my workouts. By November, we expect several inches of snow accumulated on the ground. We know the cold temperatures below freezing & often below zero are coming and will hang around for months. The sidewalks get buried under feet of snow. The pavement becomes dangerously icy. Even when the conditions warm up, the Spring is typically wet, windy & muddy. It takes months for the ground to dry up. I look forward to carrying my yoga mat outside, hand weights and jump rope outside. Whenever I get the opportunity to enjoy fresh air & feel the sun on my skin during my workouts, I am way more motivated. I ten to push myself harder, feel better and burn more calories. I get more benefits from my time and effort. I have looked for physical activities for the winter weather. I bought snowshoes, have purchased a seasonal ski pass and even tried ice skating. I just hate feeling cold. My muscles & joints feel tight, stiff & sore. I am too busy shivering to enjoy the workout. I plan to eventually move further south.
