Your HVAC Troubleshooting Guys

Because of the pandemic last year, my wife and I had to reduce our spending and live more frugally, while working and completing schooling in our air-conditioned home. Had we not been able to work, we would’ve been in financial straits! Our spending had to go down significantly. We saved a lot on entertainment because there wasn’t any. Going out to eat or to the movies or going on trips weren’t happening. Saving money really helped! We also saved in other ways, and over the summer, my wife and I had a problem that caused us to consider a dumb idea. Our HVAC system wasn’t keeping up! The heat pump was running all the time and the air conditioning couldn’t keep up. I convinced myself I could recharge the refrigerant, by watching videos on the idea. How I got so confident, I’m not sure, but thankfully my wife stopped me. She knew better than to trust our expensive HVAC system to a guy who watched a few videos, so we hired an HVAC repair company instead.

Living up here is temporary; we’ll be back to our heat pump, and summertime air conditioning, later on. However, I’ve had to figure out how to heat our home without spending a ton. Thanks to our benevolent neighbors, I’ve learned the secret – great insulation! With no drafts, I can easily control our temperature. This is our third winter here and I’ve already been preparing our HVAC system. I’m trying to get better at getting stuff done around the house. This doesn’t come naturally to me, a shame because I grew up in an environment of learning how to be handy. My dad could fix just about anything around the house. He never fooled with the heating and air conditioning equipment. He left that to the pros. However, like second nature, dad was always on top of the HVAC chores. He worked them in as he was doing all the other projects around the house. That’s not how I am! I have to set a reminder on my phone in order to change the dang air filter. And even then, it’s not as though I’m consistent with any of it. I’m trying to change this! I took a great step in the right direction by signing up for a service plan with an HVAC company. Now, I don’t have to remember to schedule the maintenance in the fall and spring. And, I have remembered to change the filter six months in a row! That could be a new record! I’m doing my best to take care of my HVAC system.

I used to have no idea what winter was about.

Not even close! Having grown up in the South, where heat pumps were used for heating, I had a distorted view of winter. To me, it was like those Christmas cartoons of my youth – fluffy snow, sledding, etc. I had no idea about cold, northern winters. My perspective has changed dramatically. My wife’s mother lives in the North. She’s getting along in her years, and needs more help with things, so staying in the South wasn’t an option for us. I work from home, so I can work anywhere. When my wife was offered a promotion less than an hour from her mom’s, it was an easy call to move. I support her on this.

Occasionally, I can make something out to be miraculous when it isn’t, so I hesitate to talk about air purification.

I have to say this, though – I like the air in our home now! That wasn’t the case for a long spell. What I didn’t realize was that an HVAC supplier had the answers all along. Our house smelled bad, with airborne odors. They happen when you have a house full of youngsters, dogs, a cat, and other concerns. Then, throw in the fact the HVAC only distributes those odors and you get where I’m coming from. This doesn’t begin to get to the health angle of good indoor air conditions. That’s a whole other situation that finally sold my wife on the cost of a home air purifier. Those odors – there was nothing I could do to cover them up or come close to eliminating them! That’s where the Heating plus Air Conditioning supplier and air purification changed my reality. Again, at the risk of carrying on about all of this, air purification changed my life! I like where I live again. That’s a huge deal! I’m really grateful to have air purification in my house!
