My HVAC technician doubted my wisdom of getting a heat pump for the house instead of using my boiler. The boiler was nearly fifty years old, and I didn’t think it was as efficient as it once was. When the HVAC technician told me I used the boiler for hot water, I shook my head. I had been using an electric hot water heater for years. I didn’t want to waste oil in the summer, just to have hot water. He shrugged and said it was probably wise, but he wanted to know if there was another reason for wanting to get rid of the boiler. I told him I wanted to leave a smaller carbon footprint, and by not using oil for heating, I was doing a small thing in helping the environment. Not only that, but with a ductless HVAC system, I was also eliminating the need for window air conditioning units. I would have a merged HVAC system in the mini split ductless HVAC and finally have heating and air conditioning all in one unit. That’s the soonest I could gather enough money to afford the new mini split ductless HVAC system.
