Your HVAC Troubleshooting Guys

When I called the HVAC company to work on the AC unit, I forgot about the birthday part we were having in the backyard.

• I had a bouncy house ready for my kids, and there was a giant slide.

We had over twenty children arriving, and their parents. We also had our families coming to celebrate our little girl’s fifth birthday. The HVAC company told me they could have an HVAC technician to the house on Saturday, around 10 AM. I forgot about the three hour window. I was thinking the HVAC technician could be at the house by 10 and be gone before the party started at noon. When the HVAC technician didn’t arrive until almost 11:30, I knew we were in trouble. He had to clean the air conditioning unit, and looked for any repairs that needed to be done. Guests were already arriving when the HVAC got there. The HVAC technician was working when the party started, and I knew he was getting aggravated. There were people throwing balls around and one of them hit the HVAC tech. He got up and told us he couldn’t work on the AC unit when there were so many people. I knew he was almost done, but there was nothing I could do. He said that all he had to do was make some minor repairs, and he would return the next day to finish up. I was wondering if we would need to pay for another service call, but this was our fault. Had I remembered about the party, I would have never agreed to the service call that day.

When the HVAC technician told me I needed to have my ductwork cleaned, I was concerned with how long it was going to take.

The HVAC technician told me they could do it on a Saturday if I wasn’t working.

I wasn’t worried about the day. I wanted to know if it was going to take hours. I know how much ductwork is in the house, and I wanted to be there when the cleaning was done so I could make sure the mess was cleaned up before the HVAC ductwork cleaning crew left. The HVAC technician was smiling when I said this. He asked if I had ever had my ductwork cleaned, and I said no. He didn’t think so. He said ductwork cleaning made little to no mess, and it was all done from outside. They ran a hose that looked like a giant vacuum cleaner, into the ductwork. The suction was strong enough to pull all the dust and debris from the ductwork. Once the ductwork was cleaned, they would sanitize the system and force a type of glue through the ductwork system that would cling to any small holes and cracks and knit them together like new. He said it was a simple process that took an hour, more or less, and it left the entire house cleaning clean and fresh and the ductwork was like new for another couple of years. I realized I was worrying about nothing. The HVAC technician arranged to have the ductwork cleaned the following weekend. I was anxious to have a home that had less dust and smelled clean again.

I knew I was a bit uppity about how late the HVAC technician was. He had cost me an entire day’s pay because he was almost three hours late. I knew there was a three-hour window, but that didn’t mean he should be three hours past the time. I told him this, and all he could say was ‘excuse me’, and drug the execu-u-use me out. I was shocked at how ride the HVAC technician sounded. I wanted to have my furnace fixed, and had I known he would be late, I would have understood. Things happen that aren’t within your control. I called the HVAC company twice, because I was concerned over his lack of calling or showing up. I handed him the phone, because I still had the HVAC company on the phone when he showed up. I told them about his attitude while he stood in the house. I could hear excuses starting to come out of his mouth, and he wouldn’t shut up. When he finally handed me the phone back, he asked where the furnace was, and then said they wanted me back. The person on the phone apologized to me and said he was new, but that wasn’t an excuse for his attitude. I had things to do, and that didn’t include worrying about whether he had his lunch on time, or had time to call his wife. I was supposed to be at work, and I had lost an entire day’s pay because of him. I got another apology and told me that all I would need to pay for was the furnace parts. The HVAC technician would do the job for free.

When my brother called and said he needed help opening his HVAC company, I thought he meant he needed help with the paperwork and bank.

I worked in a bank and I was used to doing the paperwork for new businesses.

I could get him prepared for the loan officer, and have everything ready when he went into the office. Many businesses were closed before they opened, because they weren’t prepared. I told him I would be glad to help and told him where we should start first. He told me he didn’t need my business knowledge, but he needed money. I wasn’t going to give him money unless I had a stake in the business. He told me I could call it a loan, but he needed money just to get the preliminaries started. I asked him if he wanted a business partner, and he laughed. When he told me what a great HVAC technician he was, and that was all I needed, I told him he didn’t need me and hung up. It took nearly an hour before my brother called back. He explained that he didn’t need help with the HvAC company, but with the startup. I told him I could help with the startup, but I wasn’t giving him money unless he made me a business partner. This time he hung up. I wasn’t going to call him back and when he called me again, he asked why I didn’t. I told him he needed me and I didn’t need him. He whined and told me that was how the game was played. He needed me, but I was supposed to play the game with him.
