With as cold as it has been as of late it has been making me run my central heating and air conditioning’s heater a lot more than usual.

Because of this it has been making my energy bills pretty high. I wish that there was another way I could heat my home because these bills are killing me. However, I know that there really is not. I have heard about getting portable heating and air conditioning equipment to save money on energy bills, but for me and where I live that will not work. You see it gets so cold that you need central heating to be able to combat the bad winter weather. I have thought about getting something like radiant heated floors because they really work well. But with radiant heated floors they cost way too much money for my budget and income. So I am stuck having to use the central heating and air conditioning system’s heater as my form of heating. I know there is going to be about 4 months of this at least before there is no need for central heating anymore. But then after that will come the super hot summer and I will be cranking the central heating and air conditioning system’s cooling. That is going to be another nightmare of a high electric bill. But what can I do? Unless I want to invest a ton of money I do not have into alternate forms of heating as well as air conditioning I will just have to keep dealing with this.

I wanted to put a craft shop in my garage.

It was okay working out there in the spring, but when summer arrived, it was so hot I could barely breathe.

I couldn’t leave the doors open because of the road dust that came in. I thought about doing crafts in the spring and fall to eliminate the need for HVAC, but I didn’t want to be limited to certain times of year when I did my crafts. My daughter was telling me she had a mini split ductless HVAC system in their garage. It cooled and heated the bathroom and the upper loft, and it cost very little to run. I went over to her house and checked it out. When I walked into the garage, it was so comfortable that I knew it was exactly what I wanted in my garage. I didn’t have an upper loft in my garage, but I had a bathroom. I thought maybe I could get away with an even smaller ductless HVAC unit. After talking to my husband, he wanted to make sure I was going to make enough money from the crafts to afford to have a mini split system installed in the garage. Once I showed him the orders I already had, he called the HVAC company. It took a couple of days to have the ductless HVAC system delivered, but it only took a few hours to have it installed. Now, I can work in the garage regardless of the time of year.

My HVAC technician doubted my wisdom of getting a heat pump for the house instead of using my boiler. The boiler was nearly fifty years old, and I didn’t think it was as efficient as it once was. When the HVAC technician told me I used the boiler for hot water, I shook my head. I had been using an electric hot water heater for years. I didn’t want to waste oil in the summer, just to have hot water. He shrugged and said it was probably wise, but he wanted to know if there was another reason for wanting to get rid of the boiler. I told him I wanted to leave a smaller carbon footprint, and by not using oil for heating, I was doing a small thing in helping the environment. Not only that, but with a ductless HVAC system, I was also eliminating the need for window air conditioning units. I would have a merged HVAC system in the mini split ductless HVAC and finally have heating and air conditioning all in one unit. I could put my furniture anywhere I wanted it, and not need to worry about blocking air ducts. The ductless HVAC system I had been around ran more quietly and cost less to use. He smiled and nodded. He said I covered all the bases and when I was ready to order the mini split, all I had to do was call the HVAC company. I told him I would call him in the spring. That’s the soonest I could gather enough money to afford the new mini split ductless HVAC system.

I called the HVAC company to tell them I had two monkeys on my air conditioning unit.

They appeared to be trying to dismantle the AC unit, but I would not go outside to look closer.

I could hear the laughter in her voice when the woman at the HVAC company heard my request. I told her I wasn’t nuts, and I even took a picture of the monkeys sitting on top of my air conditioning unit. It was winter, so I had no reason to worry about AC right now, but if the monkeys did any damage, I would be on the hook for a new AC unit in the spring. As soon as she got the text with the pictures, I could hear her voice change. She asked where the monkeys came from, but I didn’t know, and didn’t think they would answer me if I asked. Fifteen minutes later, my neighbor came over and apologized for the monkeys. He said he was babysitting them for his brother, and they got out of the house. They liked to sit on the AC unit because they could look inside. I wanted to ask why his brother had monkeys, but I didn’t think it was any of my business. He bundled the monkeys up and told me to call the HVAC company to make sure they didn’t do any damage. For a while there, I doubted my sanity as much as the woman at the HVAC company doubted it when i first called. No one would have believed I had monkeys on my air conditioning unit if I hadn’t taken the picture.
